Providing long-term support to a Syrian family, homeless in Turkey
Loui’s Circle (Circle 136) gives direct support to Loui and his family of five children. Loui is a refugee from Syria, a country he cannot return to for fear of his life. With his wife and children, he is living in a tent and eking out living by taking day jobs in plastering and agriculture. He gets work on a seasonal basis, sometimes only several days in a month. Some employers refuse to pay him after a day’s work, threatening him with referral to the police and deportation. When he gets agricultural work, it can mean great things for his children: he can bring home a potato or similar for an evening meal. The family often has no food, or very little food. Protein and washing are luxuries.
The family has applied for a humanitarian visa for Australia.Loui will be an asset to Australia as he is family oriented, able-bodied and an experienced heavy vehicle driver. He is sponsored by his sister, Hanadi, living in Kilkenny, Adelaide.
