Inaugural Adelaide Refugee Film Festival

Join us for the inaugural Adelaide Refugee Film Festival, a powerful showcase of recently released films that bring refugee and other stories to life. From heartbreaking documentaries to emotional narratives, these films give you a glimpse into the lives of those who have survived unimaginable hardships. Expect to see stories you won’t find anywhere else—each film shedding light on the human spirit through the eyes of someone else and others around them.

Screening at Palce Nova (Prospect) and Victa Cinema (Victor Harbor) from 29 May to 4 July 2026:

This festival is more than just film. It’s about raising awareness, building empathy, and providing support.

Enjoy two after-parties to celebrate: one at Rumi Palace Restaurant, Blair Athol with Afghan food included, and another at the Victor Harbor Town Hall, featuring local produce, food and drinks.

    1. Friday 29 May 2026 at Palace Nova: Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk
      Palestinian film about a refugee and her life.
    2. Saturday 30 May 2026 at Palace Nova: Feel It From My Words + another film
      Short documentary about musician Mushtaq Hussain who fleeing persecution and death threats is thrust into the perilous world of human smuggling.

    3. Sunday 31 May 2026 at Palace Nova: The Aegean + After Party
      The Aegean, tells the story of Hector, a lonely Greek fisherman who connects with Theodore, a young African refugee, set against the backdrop of the Aegean Sea.

    4. Saturday 4 July 2026 at Victa Cinema: We Are Not Powerless + After Party
      Documentary about the school for refugees set up by Muzafar Ali and his whife Nagina. In December 2012, Muzafar Ali and his wife Nagina escaped the Taliban in Afghanistan and became refugees in Indonesia. They started a two room school which became a community hub and the most successful refugee led initiative in the world.
      After Party at Victor Harbor Town Hall. Includes all food, drinks and refreshments.
