Showing An Iranian Food Journey Fundraiser on Let’s Eat with George

“An Iranian Food Journey” – a sold-out fundraising event by Nathan’s Circle has been featured on 9NOW as part of the Let’s Eat With George television program – Food for Thought – Episode Four.

This event was one of Nathan’s Circle’s most memorable multicultural food events in 2025.  Inspired by an email about refugees in Iran, the idea was put together together at the last minute. The unexpected response to this event was a bit of a shock. The first night sold out in 10 days, while the second night added sold out in three days! All together bringing around 90–95 people eager to experience the flavours and culture of Iran.

Guests were treated to authentic dishes from Iranian authors and their cookbooks, including Iranian refugee and chef Hamed Allahyari, once held in a detention centre, now living in Australia.

Rich aromas of saffron, herbs and slow-cooked delicacies, alongside Iranian sweet dishes flowed from the kitchen as diners shared stories and conversation late into the evening. Adding to the atmosphere was a talented musician playing traditional cultural instruments in the background, creating an immersive dining experience, with comments from those present all positive.

Television host George was a warm and charismatic presence throughout the filming on the filming night, embracing the spirit of the event and connecting beautifully with volunteers, guests, staff at the Olive Branch Cafe and others involved.

The first food event held at the Olive Branch Cafe was put on to support Ukrainian refugees coming out to South Australia and being part of Let’s Eat With George was wonderful exposure for the Circle of Friends, but also a celebration of food, culture, compassion and community connection in South Australia. It’s wonderful to know we have so many people who care.

Make sure to come along to future events at the Olive Branch in 2026 and beyond and support refugees at the same time.
